you and me and the devil makes three

Painting.  Nothing but painting.  The room I paint in at this wonderful institution is not only full of creepy crawlies, but never gets maintenanced.  The result is more time spent stomping on silverfish than on being productive (count so far this morning: 2 hours, 8 silverfish, 1 centipede) and a trash can that weekly turns into a tetris game and unfortunately most of the time jenga....when greased calzone boxes and magazine clippings spill onto the floor.  Also, I just completely shattered my jar of turpentine...the cesspool grows....

My show goes up in a week and a half.  Come.  (Hopefully I'll be done with everything...oi)

Rather disturbing circumstances have taken place in the theatre department this past week.  The whole situation backs up my belief that church is bad, faith is good...and that fear causes all kinds of evil.  It just makes me hurt for the world and those putting things in motion like this...

LOVE, people, LOVE!  That is what Jesus taught, right?

Ugh...off the soapbox, that's all.

Sorry that this is a lame update...I'm stressed and sleep deprived...and silverfish hunting, which really needs all my attention at the moment...

-I worked an overnight shift on Saturday.  I stayed awake until 8 am.  Then I slept.  And it was good.

-I saw my Mom on Sunday.  It had been 2 months.  It was wonderful.  We bought plane tickets to Europe this summer.  Yes.  Flying into Paris on June 26th and out of London on July 12.  Stopping in Germany and the Netherlands on the way.  An exciting thing to mention as well, is that we bought tickets to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Globe.  I can't express in this blog how excited I am for this trip.

-Painting is going ok...still a lot to do.  I want to be done with everything in 3 weeks so I can have a week to frame and set up.  Of course there are those last minute things I have to do once I get the gallery.  But working every day on painting is helping me feel a bit better about it.  Although...still freaking out.

-I watched Julie Taymor's Titus.  I bought it on ebay because I'm obsessed with Ms. Taymor and feel the need to see everything she's ever done.  It was definitely good...well...intense.  I haven't read the play yet, so I'm not sure if she changed anything...but as a movie review: The acting was very good.  Anthony Hopkins definitely ruled, and the man who played the Moor was maniacal and amazing.  Alan Cumming is always crazy, and was good.  The cast, overall was pretty fantastic.  The visual artsy inserts were interesting...I didn't feel that they flowed, which was disappointing.  I did however, love the cooky Taymor-ish moments (oh so present in Across the Universe) like when they present the heads to Andronicus.  So...good movie.  The ending was wonderful.  BUT not the best movie to watch before bed...in an empty apartment.

-I need to find a new place to live as of June 1st.  I really want Downtown St. Paul.  And I really want a cat.

Spring Break Day #2: More productive than the first.  Although...yesterday I slept 10 hours.  It had been a while...and sleeping in really is one of my favorite things in life.

I actually got to watch the Oscars which was a surprise and a joy.  I love becoming the overcritical ass who sits on her couch drinking wine and commenting on how unflattering Penelope Cruz's dress was.  Just three comments...ok four..damn it, five:
1) I really love Jon Stewart.  Especially because of his comment on why Brad and Angelina didn't make it: "you just can't find 17 babysitters on Oscar night..."
2) Tilda Swinton is hilarious.  She's frighteningly beautiful, and I can't wait to see her play Lady Macbeth opposite Sean Bean.  Yes. Wow.
3) I've been in love with Marion Cotillard since she was in Big Fish...and although I really wish Oscar-dom for Cate Blanchett (because, by gosh, she deserves it!) I was very happy to see her win.  I need to see La Vie en Rose now.
4) Javier...looks much much better without the bowl cut.  I really need to see Goya's Ghosts and Love in the Time of Cholera.
5) Enchanted's numbers were stupid.  I really was thinking how awful that music is.  Cheesy dumb and elementary.  That being said...I'm SO HAPPY Once won for best song.  If you haven't seen this movie-GO SEE IT NOW!  And love it.  Because it's worthy of love.

Umm I got up at 6 this morning to watch the little niece and nephew this morning for a few hours.  I like kids in small doses...especially when I can pretend that I'm a dinosaur...

And now I'm painting.  Well was...and will be after this little break.  The show's going ok.  I finally have a clear cut plan on what I'm doing...not a time line yet...but a 3 week gap to finish everything...ok, just freaked out a bit typing that.  Oh dear.

Also, painting a drop I don't want to paint in a freezing poorly lit garage.  I'm not complaining...ok I am.

All for now.  This week will hopefully be very productive and in that case be a great spring break.  However, I am planning at least one night going OUT because it has been FOREVER since a fun night was had.  Oh and seeing the Other Boleyn Girl...because I want to (even though it makes me mad they have 2 americans and an australian in the lead roles...but whatever).  So that's promising and happy.  Yes.  Optimism.

I'm not well.  Physically mostly, mentally/emotionally not really well either, but better than my body feels.  I know that I need a week of sleep.  Consecutively.  But until May, that's not really an option.  I have big plans after graduation: sleep.  and then start my life when I'm well rested.

I don't have much to say.  I'm going to San Francisco this weekend for my uncle's funeral.  He was a cool cat...and this is unfortunate.  Also, extended family I haven't seen since I was maybe 6 will all be there thinking I'm my big sister and telling me embarrassing stories.  Let's hope they just leave me alone.  I think I'm different than people in the fact that I don't want to mourn by telling everyone what I'm doing and how I am and have them ask me what I'm going to do with my degree or when I'm going to get married and have lots of babies.  I want to remember John and be alone really...well, with my sister   Regardless, it's going to be a hard weekend...only to come back to get thrown back into school and work.  Yippeeeeee.

Happy Valentine's Day though...   I'm posting something a friend sent to me today, that's quite wonderful:
Turtles Thanks, Tim!

Take care, everyone.  Hope you're all well!

Sitting in Theatre history class...learning about Seneca.  Makes me wonder why no one has ever made a movie about him.  He was involved with Calligula AND Nero (poor lad).  Ordered to kill himself.  He slashed his wrists, but his blood did not flow fast enough to kills him.  He then takes poison, which does not work.  He THEN jumps into a hot pool to either drown himself or make the blood flow faster.  What ends up killing him?  Suffocation from the steam off the hot pool.

Now THAT'S pretty cool.  I might paint it.  Goya style.

And I must say, I'm becoming quite frustrated with suppressed creativity.  I hate when people set boundaries for themselves based on how their art/actions will be perceived.  This has been bothering me a lot lately at this lovely college environment...where a play like Equus could probably never be put on...not because the man says no (which he might), but because no one has the balls to try.  Frustrating. If you love your craft, and love to create, don't set parameters for yourself.  I know reality isn't as grand as what we can imagine...but don't just give up, please!

My show is getting closer...and I'm losing the last grips on reality.  Come check it out April 4.    I might be sane again by then.
